Before you go

October to April. November to February is mild everywhere (about 18 to 25°C) but busiest. May to September is very hot in Luxor and Aswan, so it suits Red Sea beach trips best.

Per person, without international flights or tips: about $400 to $700 for a 7-day budget trip, $1,000 to $1,800 for 7 to 10 days mid-range with a Nile cruise, and $2,500 or more for 10+ days of luxury.

Three or four days in Cairo for the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then fly to Luxor and cruise the Nile to Aswan. Flying between cities saves 10+ hours on the road.

Yes, many do. Expect some verbal attention in busy areas; ignoring it works best. Covering shoulders and knees helps you fit in, and comfortable sneakers are a must.
